Diabetic Retinopathy Treatment

Treatment options include observation, laser treatment and surgery. In addition there are medications that can be injected into the back of the eye.

Treatment is tailored to each person and may be different for the two eyes.

Diabetic retinopathy may have no symptoms initially - regular screening is crucial
If retinopathy is detected you may be advised to have examinations more frequently
Not all retinopathy requires treatment - your eye specialist will advise you if treatment is appropriate
Studies have shown that better control of blood sugar levels decreases the start and progression of retinopathy
Control of hypertension (high blood pressure) reduces the risk of damage from diabetic retinopathy
If you are diabetic and have not had your eyes examined contact us directly for an appointment
