Warm compresses and gentle massaging of the eyelid may encourage drainage of the blocked gland.

Over the counter pain killers and anti-inflammatories may help if the chalazion is uncomfortable.

Antibiotics may be used, either oral or topical (drops and ointments) depending on the severity of the condition.
Drainag
e of the chalazion may be necessary. This is a simple procedure done by the Eye Specialist after administration of a local anaesthetic. You will typically have a patch over your eye for a few hours after drainage and we advise that you should not drive yourself during this time.
Other conditions of the skin and eyelid, such as skin cancers, may mimic a chalazion.
If you have a lump on your eyelid that is not going away it is best to have it checked.
