A chalazion is a lump on the upper or lower eyelid caused by blockage and inflammation of a gland. There may be multiple chalazia at the same time. A chalazion is also referred to as a meibomian or tarsal cyst. Typically the lump grows over days to weeks and is occasionally red, warm, or painful.
