BlepharitisBlepharitis is a common inflammation of the eyelids, usually affecting both eyes. Bacterial infection may be present but is not always so.
Blepharitis can occur in people of any age, from children through to older adults. It is sometimes difficult to treat and tends to recur. It is occasionally associated with inflammation on the cornea (keratitis). Complete blockage of a gland can cause a small lid abscess or chalazion.
