Amblyopia Treatments

Treatment is tailored to the individual child.

There are three main methods of treating amblyopia:

1.  “Patching” or covering the good eye – this encourages the “lazy” eye to work harder, and vision pathways to the brain to be reinforced

2.Spectacles are prescribed to correct refractive errors such as far-sightedness, short-   sightedness or astigmatism

3. Surgery may be carried out on the eye muscles to correct a misalignment

A combination of these treatments may be required.

Early detection of amblyopia optimises the chances of a successful outcome.
